When you are planning your trip to Napa & Sonomaon this site, this page should be your prime directory. It includes links to a dozen helpful, brief and to the point articles about where to stay, where to eat, what to expect and how to plan. It also includes Winery Directories for Napa and Sonoma(although the App versions are much more extensive and detailed)
Following that are links to a collection of sample tours, complete with maps, that you could follow just as they are written, or as a basis to branch out from. There also Overviews articles, including maps, about the main wine making regions in these two large counties. This is a big, productive region with a lot of details.
You will find much more information on our Smart Phone Apps including 100's of maps, 1000's of photos and videos and of course GPS. If you are touring Wine Country and you have a Smart Phone you need to have those Apps handy. Hint: Load them up early where you have access to Wi Fi because they are quite large and a great deal.
Planning Your Trip to Wine Country
First of all remember that Wine Country is Farm Country with Michelin Starred Restaurants, so you have plan differently than if you were going to the city of the suburbs. That's why our books, apps and this site are filled with easy to use maps, navigation is key.
Second, decide where you want to stay because your location determines the wines you are going to be tasting. Some locations are more convenient than others. Hint, whenever possible stay someplace where you can walk to dinner, because after a day of tasting wine in our ultra-bright country side, you will have no night vision to help you navigate our unlit, narrow country roads.
Third, put as much planning into your dinners as your wine tours. The great restaurants book up even earlier than the tasting rooms, so reservations are in order when a great reputation is desired.
Finally, a major portion of our favorite (and 8th) book on wine country, Napa & Sonoma, A Love Affair in Maps, (Wine Survivor is our Team Building version of this book) is built into this resource section. If you want to have this resource in your hand, and then some, get our mobile apps, they are awesome and the best help you will find for enjoying this area other than a private tour guide. If you want a guide/driver call us at 707-235-2648 Pacific Time. Drive Safely, have a designated driver and Enjoy Wine Country, we certainly do.

From our book: Napa & Sonoma, a Love Affair in Maps
Why is Wine Country so romantic and so sexy? Because food and wine grow here, abundantly, and something in our primal selves feels good about being near so much delicious vitality. It wakes up our appetite for enjoyment. And what do they mostly grow in Napa and Sonoma? That most elegant type of agriculture, wine grapes!
A grape vine is so prolific that it has be fiercely pruned, almost abused, pampered, mildly starved, baked in the hot sun and chilled in the cool evenings, to produce the most delicious wines to soothe the soul. Standing up to so much and still giving your best! Doesn’t that sound like falling in love?
Did we mention that Napa and Sonoma are beautiful? They are, even though their hills are not great mountains! They are more human scaled, soothing to the senses, curvaceous and sensuous, rocky and lush, tumbling into fertile valleys, filled with rows of vines following the mounded contours of the land. Most of the year the trees are green and flowers grow by the pathways.
This is a place where that most romantic of flowers, the rose thrives in many lovely colors. The bay winds cross the clouds rolling in from the ocean, and tumble over the hills and valleys. They create an entertaining variety of unique climates, hidden in hillside havens. On even a short trip you can feel the difference on your skin, like the quickly shifting moods of a new lover.
As we created tours for our books, poring over maps and satellite images, and driving up winding roads to hidden wineries, the unique nature of this place increasingly revealed itself. We glimpsed how the sacred dimensions of winery buildings fit themselves into the magical shapes of the land, creating a place where beauty loves to grow. As we guided tours from winery to winery, the body of the land was like a musical instrument, so the routes we followed became love songs, improvised celebrations of glorious journeys among the vines. Our maps and tours are a beloved portrait of this place as an expression of beauty and romance in motion.
We have selected from our various books and private notes for our most enjoyable tours, including the most charming wineries and picnic spots. We then made this book easy for you to read while riding in a convertible with the top down and the wind blowing through your hair on your wine country vacation. So let’s put this love affair in motion.
